HARVEY DAZE NORTH 2011 Harvey Daze 2011 was a success! Due, mostly to the Woodstock-Era “NO RAIN” chant repeated with gusto by Vicky Knopf for three days prior, the weather was perfect!
There were somewhere around 646 people in attendance. The food was fantastic! We had 500 hamburgers grilled to perfection by Jumbos, who also provided all the fixin’s to dress them up. We had 30 pounds of old fashion sloppy joes and side dishes that were both bountiful and delicious!! Topped off by two delicious cakes made with love by Scott Leeson especially for Harvey Daze! We, of course encouraged everyone to call Jimboos (708) 339-00833 jimboosebeefe.com when they need catering (great Italian Beef and Chicken!) and Leeson Cakes (708) 429-1330 or leesoncakes.net when you are looking for that perfect cake. And thanks to Bruce Ladewig who donated all of the Harvey Daze 2011 pens that were given away at the front tables. What a treat! This year, instead of having to go to the bar for pop or water, we set up the outdoor refreshment stand and all the pop and water was sold outdoors, that seemed to work very well, and left the bartenders to do the heavy lifting! Again there were attendees of all ages – from 1 to 90’s! what a joy to be a part of a function that brings people of all ages together with common memories! Of course, there are many people to thank for their hard work and participation: Bill Kubida, Tim and Vicky (Thrash) Knopf, Carl Durnavich, Dave Abshire, Gerry Lau, David Brown, Zanda Moore, Gail Mauslof, Karen and Manuel (Newberry) Sanchez, Diane King Hickey, David Ingram, Jr Caldwell Bradshaw, Al (Butch) and Pat (Caldwell) Kubon, Mike Saulters, Steve Hurtt, Terry Hurtt, Linda Renshaw and Dave Corsello, and I am sure I am forgetting someone! Not to mention all of the people who spread the word to others and came to Harvey Daze. We had a lot of people who came from near (Hammond) and far (California). There were a lot of the “regulars” in addition to many who came out for the first time. To them we say, WELCOME and see you next year!! (September 8, 2012). You don’t know how much we appreciate the fact that all of you take this time out of your busy lives to get together one day (or one weekend) a year! There were some who were unable to come due to illness or injury. As there were more than a few, I will not start naming them, because I am bound to forget someone and I do not want to leave anyone out or hurt anyone’s feelings. So, let’s just say that we missed every one of them and hope they all get better soon. Of course, we also want to say thanks to all of the people who have served on the committee in years past, every Harvey Daze lays the foundation for the ones to come!
